» » Perennials v Cooke/Instonians - Sunday 07 March 

The sun shone at Shaws Bridge as both teams produced a great game of open rugby, with the hosts running out winners by 7 tries to 3. The Perrenials were always chasing the game as the hosts scored a couple of early tries to get their noses in front. A George Neely try, reminisant of Devon Lock trying to make finish line at the Grand National, brought the Perennials back into the game. Despite a great individual try from Peter Sandford and an opportunist try from Michael Monteith the hosts turned it on in the final quarter, scoring 3 unanswered tries.

A special thanks to referee David Armstrong who managed to control the other 30 referrees on the pitch ,organiser Michael O’Reilly and to our hosts for the meal after the match and for their generous donation to our charity account.

A lot of players who did not feature on the pitch were spectating at the game, obviously saving themselves for our final tour match of the season against London Irish.

» » Hospitality Race Day - Friday 31 August 2010

Please put  the date in your diary now. Our major charity event of the year is our Day at the Races on Friday 31 August 2010 at Down Royal Racecourse. In these difficult times charity stiill needs our support. Our charities this year are IRFU Charitable Trust,  Shine a Light (helping children with cancer) and The Christopher McCollum Fund (helping purchase equipment for young people under 18, who have a disability or illness which may be life limited). Tables of 10  cost £1000 or individual tickets £100 each. We need your support to fill these tables. » » Perennials v Newry - Sunday 21 February
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
Despite overnight snow in Belfast the sun shone in Newry as the Perennials came out winners by 4 tries to 2. The heavy pitch didn’t dampen the spirits, as both teams produced some great running rugby and showed off their ball handling skills.

The Perennials took the lead with a well worked try from new recruit Mervyn Brown followed  by further tries from Mark Goldsbrough, Andy Matchett and Stuart Porter. Newry were always in the hunt right up to the death and only some great defence kept our hosts at bay.

A bit thank you to all the supporters who made the trip both those that were sober and those that were a bit the worse for wear and this was before kick off. Special thanks to Peter Graham, Eugene O’Hagan and Brian Henry and the rest of the Newry club for their hospitality.

Attention is now focused on our next match as  we build up momentum to our tour match against London Irish.

In association with the IRFU Charitable Trust, attend alongside past and present Ulster Rugby players an evening in the Strand cinema on 02/03 March 2010, with drinks reception at 18.30 hours and after the film hear the experiences of several Ulster players who have played in South Africa. » » Perennials v Monaghan - Sunday 29 November 

A very disappointing turnout by the Perennials at Monaghan say our hosts run out worthy winners by 7 tries to 5, in what were very difficult playing conditions. It appears the cold  conditions and the festivities following Ireland’s victory over the reigning World champions South Africa the day before, took its toll on the numbers travelling.

A big thank you to everyone who made the journey and a special thanks to Gerard Sloane and Paddy Mallon for hosting us and helping us on the playing front. Needless to say Monaghan did the honours on the hospitality side in their normal Irish fashion.  See pictures in photo gallery.

After the Christmas festivities we will need the run out against the Presidents and Captains club on 03 Jan 2010.

» » Perennials v City of Derry - Sunday 01 November 

 At a wet and windy Belmont the Perennials lost their one match winning sequence to an excellent City of Derry team by 7 tries to 4. The Perennials took an early lead with a try from Ricky McIlmoyle,  as both teams attempted to play open running rugby in very difficult conditions. Despite futher tries from Andy Matchett and a brace from Stuart Porter  the Perennials could not get their noses in front, as City of Derry ran out winners.

Our captain had to retire early with some breathing difficulties but in short he was out in fancy dress partying for Hallowen the night before, instead of concentrating on the big match.

Thank you to all the players and supporters and a big welcome to some new faces who will help in reducing the average age of the squad.

» » Perennials v Belfast Harlequins - Sunday 04 October

Champagne rugby again prevailed, in the suburbs of Malone, where the Perennials took on Belfast Harlequins.  With the sunshine conditions suiting a game of running rugby and our hosts  a few players short, Captain Pitt put his match winning plan together in the bar before kick off by donating the services of Jim Cowden to the opposition for all four quarters.  At the end of the day Captain Pitt and his team claimed a 7 tries to 5 victory. The Perennials took an early lead which they never let go off.  As usual the forwards did all the hard work to give the backs the credit for all 7 tries. An early try by Andy Matchett was followed by further tries from Michael Monteith, Neil McConkey, George Neely and Ricky McIlmoyle finished with a hat trick.

A big that you to all those who turned out and especially to those who helped Harlequins out, due to their shortage of players. A special thanks also to referees Tim Lowry and our own David Armstrong for keeping the game flowing and taking no nonsense from the other 30 referees on the pitch.

As is custom Bernie McGrath did us all pround in the hospitality stakes by providing a superb feast after the game.

With a win under our belt  focus is  on our next outing on 01 November when we are hosting City of Derry. Belmont.

» » Perennials v BHSFP - Sunday 13 September

Champagne rugby prevailed, at a sun drenched Greenisland, where open flowing rugby from both teams saw BHSFP claim a 7  to 5 tries victory. The Perennials were in the lead until the last quarter with tries from Jim Keith, our captain Geoff Pitt, Kevin Simpson, Davy Wilson and new recruit George Neely. Unfortunately the old legs tired in the final quarter and our hosts ran in a couple of good tries to seal victory.

A big that you to all those who turned out and a special thanks to Ken Hutchinson and his High Scool team for their excellent hospitality after the game.

With the warm up over, it all eyes focused on our next outing on 04 October at Harlequins.
